Scott Clifton è un volto oramai storico di B&B: lo vediamo nei panni di Liam Cooper, poi Liam Spencer, dal 19 luglio del 2010.
L’attore aveva appena lasciato un’altra soap, One Life To Live.
Liam arriva alla FC come tecnico informatico alla ricerca del padre.
La madre, ex modella alla FC, Kelly Hopkins, infatti, sul letto di morte, gli aveva confessato di avere un padre a Los Angeles, di cercarlo alla Forrester.
In un primo momento, Liam pensava di essere figlio di Ridge, ma poi i due papà… papabili restarono due: Thorne, che ebbe una storia con la madre di Liam, e Bill, che ovviamente ha avuto storie con tutte le donne di L.A. e provincia!
Sappiamo tutti com’è finita: il test di paternità ci dice che lo Stallone Bill ha colpito ancora e Liam, faticosamente, si lega a Dollar Bill.
Ah, non dimentichiamo che in questo ricongiungimento c’è lo zampino della dolce Hope, quella che trova i figli di Bill sparsi per il mondo!
Liam è un personaggio molto sfaccettato e noi siamo super curiosi!
Abbiamo chiesto al simpaticissimo Scott di dirci tutto! Ecco tutto quello che ci ha raccontato sul suo personaggio.
TWB: Scott, il tuo Liam è un bravo ragazzo, senza dubbio, eppure ha i suoi difetti. Cosa pensi di lui? In che cosa dovrebbe migliorarsi?
SCOTT: Sì, decisamente Liam si vede come un bravo ragazzo e penso che la maggior parte delle persone nella sua vita lo veda così, nonostante i suoi difetti. Ma quei difetti sicuramente lo rendono interessante. Liam è un idealista. Qualche volta questo aspetto lo rende ingenuo e insensibile rispetto alle potenziali conseguenze delle sue azioni e non è estraneo a scelte sbagliate. Cerca di rendere tutti contenti trascurando di scegliersi le proprie battaglie e, come risultato, finisce col ferire più persone di quante non immaginasse. Penso che uno dei suoi maggiori difetti sia il suo concetto di amore, ma ci arriveremo in un’altra domanda!
TWB: Cosa puoi raccontarci della reazione padre-figlio e delle tue scene con il talentuoso Don Diamont? E l’arrivo di un altro giovane Spencer, Wyatt, ha aggiunto quel qualcosa in più alle scene di famiglia?
SCOTT: Non avrei la mia storyline o il meraviglioso personaggio che interpreto se non fosse per Don. Sin dall’inizio, Don è stato una specie di promotore per me e per la relazione tra i nostri personaggi. Sapeva che la cosa andava fatta nel modo giusto – non solo scritta, ma interpretata – e l’ha trattato come qualcosa di prezioso e scientifico allo stesso tempo. Le mie scene con lui possono spaziare da quelle intensamente drammatiche ed emozionali a quelle di spigliati scambi sparati a ripetizione, e pare che siamo riusciti a trovare la formula per entrambi gli estremi.
L’arrivo di Darin è stata una benedizione per me, personalmente, e anche per lo show. Rido sempre per il fatto che, quando ho saputo che stavano facendo un casting per un nuovo giovane personaggio della famiglia Spencer, io non ho minimamente pensato che questo personaggio potesse diventare un rivale in amore, mettendo su un triangolo amoroso per gli anni a venire. Il mio solo pensiero all’epoca, egoisticamente, era “Avrò un fratello! Avete sentito? Avrò un fratello!”, trattavo “Wyatt” come se fosse un dono solo per Liam. Ad ogni modo, Darin ed io lavoriamo molto bene assieme, perché abbiamo un modo molto simile di concepire il fluire di una scena e il naturale tiro alla fune tra i due personaggi. Anche se sulla scena interpretiamo due rivali, ciò che voi vedete è una collaborazione molto pensata fra noi due come attori.
TWB: Scott, è arrivato il momento di parlare della vita amorosa di Liam: è un giovane uomo con tonnellate di matrimoni, mezzi matrimoni e divorzi alle spalle! E tutte le sue mogli appartengono alla stessa famiglia… ma davvero Los Angeles è così piccola? 😉
Cosa pensi di Liam è del suo concetto di amore? Hope, Steffy ed Ivy sono diversi tipi di donne e Liam le ha amate tutte costruendo con loro relazioni così differenti. Qual è la ragazza migliore per il tuo personaggio?
SCOTT: E’ buffo che tu lo dica! Noi scherziamo sul fatto che apparentemente ci siano poche donne e pochi uomini in tutta Los Angeles perché i nostri personaggi sembrano pescare i loro interessi amorosi tutti dallo stesso piccolissimo stagno.
Penso che il problema di Liam con le donne sia il complesso del Cavaliere dalla Scintillante Armatura. Vuole essere il salvatore, l’eroe. Ma non può salvare tutti e, costruendosi questo personaggio, finisce con l’auto-distruggersi. Come ho detto prima, Liam è un idealista, quindi credo che a volte commetta l’errore di amare l’idea dell’amore, piuttosto che amare una persona – Steffy, Hope, Ivy – per quella che è. Ciascuno di questi splendidi personaggi femminili porta alla luce un lato leggermente diverso di Liam, che io apprezzo. Questo significa che, come attore, devo essere un po’ diverso quando sono in scena con ciascuna di loro e questo funziona davvero bene. Per me, come spettatore, penso che ci sia qualcosa nella personalità di Steffy che tende a scattare con quella di Liam in modo da mitigare le brutte abitudini. Credo che Liam davvero ami e rispetti Steffy per quello che è perché lei lo stimola, piuttosto che essere semplicemente innamorato dell’idea dell’amore.

Scott Clifton has been giving a body and a soul to Liam Cooper, then Liam Spencer, since the 10th of July 2010.
Liam arrived at the Forrester Creations as a computer technician and was determined to find his father.
Before dying, his mother, former model Kelly Hopkins, told him to go to the FC if he wanted to meet his biological father.
At the very beginning of his quest, Liam thought Ridge was his father.
Then, he found out that only two men could possibly be his father: Thorne Forrester, who had a love story with Kelly, and Bill Spencer, who has had love affairs with all the women of L.A.!
Thorne’s mild character makes him so much similar to Liam’s while Bill’s more selfish and tough, but we all know how it ended – Stallion Bill has sons everywhere in Los Angeles, so no wonder Liam was a Spencer!
And let’s not forget that everything is due to sweet Hope: she’s the one in charge of finding all the long-lost sons Bill has had all around the world!
We love Liam Spencer, with his virtues and flaws, and we’re happy we had the chance of talking about Liam’s many aspectes with super kind and super nice Scott Clifton! Here’s what this talented actor has told us about his character.
TWB: Scott, your Liam is a good guy, no doubt, and yet he has some flaws. What do you think about him? What should he improve about himself?
SCOTT: Yeah, Liam definitely sees himself as a good guy, and I think most of the people in his life do too, despite his flaws. But those flaws certainly are what make him interesting. Liam’s an idealist. Sometimes that makes him naive, or insensitive to the potential consequences of his actions, and he’s no stranger to poor choices. He tries to make everyone happy, neglecting to choose his battles, and as a result he hurts more people than he intended to. I think one of his greatest flaws is his understanding of love, but we’ll get to that in another question!
TWB: When Liam appeared, his paternity immediately became an interesting SL, so well written: Ridge, then Thorne and Bill could be Liam’s dad and Liam found out to be so different from his bilogical father, Bill Spencer.
Since then, their relationship has been wonderfully built and their dialogues are so brilliant, clever, punny, entertaining because you two rock together!
What can you tell us about this father-son relationship and about your scenes with talented Don Diamont? And did the arrival of another Spencer boy, Wyatt, added that something to those family scenes?
SCOTT: I wouldn’t have the storyline or the wonderful character I do, if it weren’t for Don. From the beginning, Don was a sort of champion for me, and for the relationship between our characters. He knew it needed to be done the right way—not just written, but performed—and he treated it like something both precious and scientific. My scenes with him can range from intensely dramatic and emotional, to a breezy rapid-fir repartee, and we seem to have found a formula for both extremes.
Darin coming on the scene was a blessing for me, personally, and I think for the show, too. I always laugh about the fact that, when I found out they were casting another young Spencer man, I didn’t even consider the fact that this character would be a romantic rival, setting up a love triangle for years to come. My only thought at the time, selfishly, was, “I’m getting a brother! Did you hear? I’m getting a brother!” I treated ‘Wyatt’ as if he were a gift just for Liam. In any case, Darin and I work very well together, because we have very similar thoughts about the flow of a scene, and the natural tug-of-war between two characters. Even though we play rivals on screen, what you’re seeing is a well thought-out collaboration between the two of us as Actors.
TWB: Scott, now it’s time to talk about Liam’s love life: he’s a young man with tons of weddings, semi-weddings and divorces in his past! And all of his wives belong to the same family… is L.A. that small? 😉
What do you think about Liam and his relationship with the concept of love? Hope, Steffy and Ivy are different types of women, and Liam loved them all building such different relashionships. Who’s the best girl for your character?
SCOTT: It’s funny you say that! We joke about how there’s apparently only a few women and a few men in all of Los Angeles, because all of our characters only seem to choose our romantic interests from a very tiny pool.
I think Liam’s problem with women is that he has a Knight in Shining Armor complex. He wants to be the rescuer, the hero. But he can’t save everyone, and by building himself up this way, he ends up self-desctructing. Like I said before, Liam is an idealist, so I think he makes the mistake sometimes of loving the idea of love, rather than loving a person—Steffy, Hope, Ivy—for who they are. Each of these wonderful female characters brings out a slightly different side to Liam though, which I appreciate. It means that as an actor I got to be a little different when I’m in scenes with each of them, and that’s worked really nicely. To me, as a viewer, I think there’s something about Steffy’s personality that tends to click with Liam’s in a way that mitigates those bad habits. I think Liam really does love and respect Steffy because of who she is and how she challenges him, rather than merely being in love with the idea of love.
