La talentuosa Reign Edwards in The Bold and The Beautiful è Nicole Avant. E’ da gennaio 2015 che recita la parte della Sig.na Avant.
In meno di un anno, questo personaggio è stato coinvolto in importanti e accattivanti story line. E molto deve ancora arrivare!!
Abbiamo chiesto a Reign un po’ di cose riguardo la sua Nicole e circa la sua esperienza nella soap.
TWB: Reign, il tuo è un personaggio molto interessante con tanti aspetti che devono ancora essere indagati: quando Nicole è apparsa per la prima volta nello show, abbiamo notato che ricattava Maya per avere qualcosa in cambio – un lavoro glamour, un bel posto dove vivere. Ma forse questo era solo l’approccio sbagliato della piccola Nicole nei confronti di sua sorella. Puoi spiegarci come Nicole si sentiva vicino a Maya? Stava forse soffrendo per non aver vissuto Maya durante gli anni dell’adolescenza?
Reign: Nicole stava assolutamente soffrendo per l’assenza di Maya! Direi che questa sofferenza sia cominciata quando scopre di avere una sorella, cioè proprio durante gli anni dell’adolescenza. Maya faceva delle veloci apparizioni durante l’infanzia di Nicole nella speranza che i suoi genitori le permettessero di avere una relazione con lei. Tuttavia, proprio a causa dei genitori, i tentativi di Maya non avevano successo. Così per Nicole il peso dell’assenza di sua sorella è stato rilevante sia durante che dopo gli anni della sua adolescenza. E, a causa dei segreti mantenuti dai gentori, Nicole non sapeva che Maya aveva provato più volte a stringere un legame con lei. Nicole pensava che Maya l’avesse abbandonata. E quando ci si sente abbandonati, è difficile capire che qualcuno di importante manca nella tua vita. E’ ancora più difficile quando pensi che quella persona aveva intenzione di insegnarti e guidarti verso qualcosa. In questa situazione si trovava Nicole quando ha incontrato Maya.
TWB: La tua Nicole è molto giovane e si trova ad affrontare un bel po’ di situazioni, alcune delle quali molto toste: per prima cosa ha dovuto accettare che il suo ex fratello fosse diventato una sorella; ha avuto dei contrasti con i suoi genitori; ha lasciato il college e cominciato a lavorare alla FC; ora sta affrontando una maternità surrogata e si sta innamorando per la prima volta: niente male per una giovane donna!! Cos’è più difficile per Nicole? È felice di fare da madre surrogata per Maya e Rick? O si è sentita in obbligo, poiché in parte è responsabile dei problemi di Maya con la stampa circa il suo essere transgender?
Reign: Bella domanda! Al di là di tutte queste situazioni che Nicole si trova ad affrontare, la cosa più difficile sarà scegliere tra sua sorella e il suo primo amore. Nicole è grata a Rick e Maya per la loro generosità e il loro perdono nonostante il suo comportamento appena arrivata in città. Lei vorrebbe che sua sorella esaudisse tutti i suoi desideri! Deve tanto a sua sorella e questo pesa molto sulla sua coscienza. Poi, però, ha Zende. Questo meraviglioso ragazzo di cui è tanto innamorata! Loro hanno cominciato questa nuova relazione dopo mesi di corteggiamento e lei vorrebbe farla crescere con lui. Per Nicole, è veramente una lotta per l’amore. L’amore per sua sorella e l’amore per il suo ragazzo. La domanda che lei si pone è: “Quale amore dovrei mettere al primo posto in questo momento?”
TWB: Ci puoi raccontare qualcosa dell’audizione che hai sostenuto per il ruolo di Nicole? Eri nervosa? Hai provato qualche scena con tua sorella – sullo schermo – Karla Mosley? Com’è il tuo rapporto con lei? Voi due sembrate molto vicine e in perfetta sintonia quando recitate insieme. Siete amiche anche fuori dal set?
Reign: Quando ho fatto il provino per Nicole ero assolutamente nervosa! Penso che quando sei nervosa per qualcosa vuol dire che a quella cosa ci tieni! Ahah, ma ho comunque cercato di mantenere un buon atteggiamento mentale. Una frase che si pronuncia spesso sull’industria dell’intrattenimento è: “…un mondo di no”. Devi andare incontro a milioni di “no” prima di ricevere quel bellissimo “si”! Pertanto, durante il processo di selezione, facevo di tutto per rimanere positiva, di non riporci troppe speranze. Avrei dato tutto ogni qual volta mi chiamavano. Avrei ringraziato il Signore per l’opportunità e fatto del mio meglio per non pensarci troppo. In tutta onestà, non me l’aspettavo. Osservando le altre ragazze nella stanza, sembrava proprio che io fossi la più giovane. Così mi dicevo cose del tipo: “Okay, può darsi che questa volta non passerai, ma vai dentro e fai del tuo meglio. Tutto andrà bene”. E così adesso sono ogni giorno sugli schermi tv recitando la parte di Nicole Avant! Ahah, è una cosa folle! E per quanto riguarda la cara Karla Mosley, ho recitato una scena d’intesa con lei come audizione finale. Certamente, Io AMO Karla! Lei non solo è un’incredibile attrice dalla quale costantemente imparo, ma è anche la persona più gentile io abbia mai incontrato nella mia vita. E sì, siamo amiche anche al di fuori della soap! Essendo più giovane non posso partecipare a tutto, ma quando ce n’è la possibilità lei estende l’invito.
TWB: Nicole e Maya sono molto legate tra loro e i problemi che hanno avuto appartengono al passato. Ma… a proposito di Mamma e Papà Avant? Quali sono le caratteristiche dei genitori di Nicole e Maya? Accetteranno le scelte di vita delle loro figlie? Saranno finalmente felici per loro, senza provare a controllare o giudicare i loro comportamenti?
Reign: Io penso che, come famiglia, gli Avant abbiano ancora molto da lavorare. Devono crescere come famiglia perché un sacco di danni sono stati fatti. Mamma e Papà Avant amano le loro figlie, hanno solo ancora problemi a guardarle occhi negli occhi al momento. Non posso dire molto, ma penso davvero che i fans troveranno le risposte e capiranno meglio gli Avant continuando a seguire la soap.

Let’s ask Reign something about her Nicole and about her experience on the show.
TWB: Reign, you play a very interesting character with so many aspects to be investigated: when Nicole first appeared on the show, we could see she was blackmailing Maya to get something – a glamorous job, an awesome place where to live. But maybe that was just the wrong way little Nicole approached her long lost sister. Can you explain how Nicole felt about Maya? Was Nicole suffering for not having had Maya around in her teenage years?
Reign: Nicole was definitely suffering from Maya’s absence! Though, I would say that the suffering from Maya’s absence began when she found out that she had a sister, which was right before her adolescent years. Maya made brief appearances throughout Nicole’s childhood in hopes that her parents would allow her a relationship with Nicole. However, because of their parents, Maya’s attempts were unsuccessful. So, for Nicole, having encountered Maya a couple of times before her adolescent years, the weight of her sister’s absence really took a toll on her during and after her adolescent years. And due to all of the secrecy their parents had kept, Nicole didn’t know that Maya had made attempts to have a real relationship with her. Nicole felt as though Maya had abandoned her. And when it comes to abandonment, it’s difficult for a person to know that someone important is missing from your life. It’s especially difficult when you feel as though that person was meant to teach you and guide you through certain things. So, this state of mind is where Nicole was coming from when she first encountered Maya.
TWB: Your Nicole is very young and yet she’s facing lots of issues, some of which are really tough: first, she had to accept her former brother is now her sister; she has had contrasts with her parents; she’s left college and she’s started to work at FC; she’s now facing surrogacy and she’s falling in love for the first time: not bad for a young girl! Which is the toughest for Nicole? Is she happy to be a surrogate for Maya and Rick? Or does she feel morally obliged, since she is in part responsible for Maya’s troubles with the press about her being a transgender?
Reign: Good question! Out of all the situations Nicole has going on, the toughest one is deciding between her sister and her first love. Nicole is so thankful to Maya and Rick for their generosity and forgiveness despite Nicole’s foul behavior when she first came to town. She wants her sister receive every dream she wishes for! She owes so much to her sister and that definitely weighs heavily on her conscious. Then she has Zende. This amazing guy that she is very much falling in love with! They’ve started this new relationship after months of courting and she wants to continue rising up with him. For Nicole, it’s really a battle of love. The love for her sister and the love for her boyfriend. The question she’s really asking herself is “Which love is the love I should be putting first at this current moment?”
TWB: Reign, can you tell us something about the audition for the role of Nicole? Were you nervous? Did you try a scene with your on-screen sis Karla Mosley? How’s your relationship with her? You two seem very close and in perfect sintony when you perform together. Are you friends out of set?
Reign: When I auditioned for Nicole I was definitely nervous! I think that when you’re nervous about something it means you care! Haha, but I was really just trying to keep myself in a good mindset. A phrase that is often said about the entertainment industry is that it is “…a world of ‘no’s”. You have to go through a million “no”’s before you get that beautiful “yes”! Therefore, while I was in the auditioning process for the role I did my best to stay positive, yet not get my hopes up. I would give it my all every time they called me in. I would always feel good about it, thank The Lord for the opportunity, and then do my best not to overthink it. In all honesty, I didn’t expect to get it. From my observation of the other girls in the room, it looked very much as though I were the youngest. So I was like “Okay, you may not get this one, but go in there and do your best. It’ll be fine.” And now here I am on tv screens everyday playing Nicole Avant! Haha, it’s pretty crazy! And as for the lovely Karla Mosley, I did do a chemistry read with her as my final audition. I absolutely LOVE Karla! She’s not only an incredible actress that I learn from constantly, she is one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. And yes, we are friends outside of the show! I’m a little younger than so I can’t attend everything she can yet, but when I’m able to she will extend an invitation.
TWB: Nicole and Maya are now very fond of each other and the issues they had belong to the past. But what about Mamma and Papa Avant? What are the main features of Nicole and Maya’s parents? Are they going to accept their daughters’ choices in life? Will they be happy for them, without trying to control or judge what they do?
Reign: I think that as a family, the Avant’s have a lot to work through. They have to grow as a family because a lot of damage has been done. Mama and Papa Avant do love their children, they just have trouble seeing eye to eye with them at times. I can’t give away too much, but I really think the fans will find the answers and understand more about the Avant’s as they continue on.
