Intervista a Thorsten Kaye – Interview to Thorsten Kaye

[Scroll down for the English version]

Fa sentire tutti i benvenuti.

Probabilmente no.

ENGLISH VERSION

We spent a year without Ridge Forrester, a year during which so much happened – Steffy lost her baby and left L.A. for Paris, Brooke had a relationship with Bill and Katie almost broke down.

When Ridge came back from Paris, a bit more than a year ago, he was a brand new man – from every point of view! And of course, fans and viewers did compare the two actors for a while, it was quite natural. And yet, Thorsten managed to make this charcater totally his, adding that special something that made his Ridge so charming and so bold.

Let’s ask Thorsten about Ridge, B&B and more! TWB: Thorsten, we like you as Ridge! At the beginning it was a bit strange, you know… after so many years: and yet you managed to conquer the fans of the soap! That’s great 🙂 How was your first day on set? You were well aware you were going to give life to a beloved character: pros and cons?

Thorsten: First day on set was great. The most fortunate thing about The Bold and the Beautiful set is that John (McCook) is there. He sets the tone. He makes everyone feel welcome. Katherine Kelly Lang was there. They both called me in Connecticut before I started and made me feel welcome. Knowing John is a great introduction to the show. I’ve never taken over a continuing role before.  But I think that’s tougher on the other actors. For me it’s just trying to breath life into someone. The others were expecting a different face when they opened the door. The “Cons” are that you might fail. But you might fail at anything you might do. When that happens you move on.

TWB: You are a talented actor and you managed to give something new to this character, adding some traits he didn’t use to have and giving a new life and realiability to “new” Ridge. How difficult or how easy was this process for you as an actor?

Thorsten: As an actor you can only bring what’s in your arsenal. Unfortunately for the fans you also lose some of the things that Ronn brought. Whoever the actor is you try to tell a story that keeps an audience interested. Acting is not difficult; it’s complicated.

TWB: In Italy we are a bit behind with the episodes, a couple of months, but we know what’s going on: Ridge’s going to be a father for his son’s baby. It’s not so strange for the characters of a soap…!, But how do you feel about Ridge’s decision as to keep the secret and be a dad to his own grandson?

Thorsten: I think Ridge is going to do what’s best for the kid, best for the wife. And even what’s best for his son. He’s trying to protect the most important people in his life. Is that going to work out for everybody? Probably not.

TWB: You have European origins: how often do you come back to the Old Continent? Is there anything you miss? Do you have any plans to come and visit Italy? It’d be great for us to watch more B&B episodes shot in Italy, with you, Linsey Godfrey and the other cast members! If you come, we’ll offer you our best coffee!

Thorsten: I miss Europe a lot. More now that my children are older. I took them to Europe last year. The more I’m there I miss what Europe has to offer. I do love living in The States. It allows us to have a good life. But I miss the comfort, the speed and the smells of Europe. Hopefully we’ll get to film some stuff in Italy some day soon.

TWB: Thanks so much, Thorsten!
